Meeting Each Student’s Needs

Instructional Support

At HTS, instructional support is a vital part of our commitment to cura personalis—care for the whole person. Through a thoughtful blend of push-in and pull-out services, our dedicated instructional support staff provide individualized and small group instruction to meet each student's needs. For students with educational testing, we ensure accommodations are in place to support their learning journey. Working in close partnership with classroom teachers, the instructional support team helps foster academic growth, confidence, and a love of learning in every child.

Lower School Formal Classroom Accommodations

If Indicated on testing, we will offer these six formal accommodations for Lower School:

  • Extended time or reduced length of assignments/fewer problems (classwork and homework)

  • Preferential/flexible seating, ie wobble stool 

  • Calculator use, beginning in 4th grade only. Use of math charts in lower grades.

  • Keyboarding/use of computer and assistive technology; Access to text to speech function when applicable (headphones)

  • No penalty for spelling and mechanicals errors unless on a spelling test; opportunity to correct convention miscues 

  • Access to check lists, visuals, charts, graph paper and noise canceling headphones

Upper School Formal Classroom Accommodations

If Indicated on testing, we will offer these six formal accommodations for Upper School:

  • Extended time for assessments (up to 100%)

  • Preferential seating in class

  • Classroom use of computers; Access to assistive technology (i.e. text to speech function when applicable; headphones)

  • Calculator use

  • Copies of notes/teacher PPTs 

  • No points off for spelling unless on a spelling test/graded for content of writing
