Welcome to Second Grade Language Arts

General Homework Policy: The purpose of Second Grade homework is to practice and solidify skills taught in the classroom. Second grade will have Language Arts homework assigned Monday through Thursday nights. In addition, students will be expected to read nightly for 20 minutes. Students should record their reading on their Reading Logs(which will be sent home on Monday in their take home folder). As the week progresses, students will record their nightly reading on their reading logs. The reading log should be signed on Thursday by a parent and returned on Friday.     Homework is DUE the day after it is assigned unless otherwise noted.

The expectation is that your child will spend time reviewing skills that are being taught in school.  No student should spend more that 20 minutes on homework in any given subject.  Please be sure to let us know if their is a topic or area that your child is struggling with.

Students assignments will be written in their homework planners.  Please check these nightly as last minute homework changes can occur which may not be reflected on the homework page.  If a student is absent due to illness, please contact me for missed assignments.  Missed homework will be due 2 days after return to school.  If your child will  be absent due to vacation, please notify me at least one week before they will be out of school so that we can make a plan for missed class work and assignments.

Spelling tests will be given on Fridays and students should study their words throughout the week. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. mgannon@htsdc.org

I look forward to working with you and your child this year!
