General Homework Policy:

The purpose of homework in the 3rd grade is to practice and expand skills independently. It is assigned on a regular basis, and is collected, corrected and returned promptly. The expectation is a total of 45 minutes for all subjects each night plus an additional 20 minutes of free choice reading. ***Please make a note whenever homework is completed with assistance as this will let us know that further in-class review is needed.

Students are expected to write all assignments in their homework planners. Time is allotted during class for this purpose. Assignments are expected to be completed neatly and turned in on the due date. Students record all missing homework in the Homework Log in the classroom and they are responsible for completing the work within 24 hours. If assignments are still missing by Friday, the student will stay in from the first recess to complete it.

***Homework should NOT be stressful or keep a student up late. Please keep me informed of any major issues or difficulties with your child completing the homework.

Homework Policy: Every Monday, students are required to write ten complete, thoughtful sentences using ten of the words from that week’s spelling list. This should be done on a properly headed piece of loose leaf. Also students are assigned to complete that week’s unit in the Spelling Book by Friday. Tuesdays and Wednesdays homework is usually either a review on grammar concepts introduced in class or reading comprehension questions based on the literature we are covering in class. Thursday nights, students are to finsh the Spelling Book for that week’s unit and for most weeks, that includes a writing assignment that should be completed on properly headed looseleaf.

Homework Policy:
Math homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. It is either a worksheet or a workbook page and it is always due the following day. Homework is always practicing skills taught that day in math or occasionally it is previewing a concept we will begin to cover if we are beginning a new unit.
