Welcome to Holy Trinity's Website

Ms. Mary Shannon, Principal

Welcome to Holy Trinity School, the oldest elementary school in the District of Columbia.  Holy Trinity is a Roman Catholic school with a Jesuit heritage. The teachings of St. Ignatius and the Jesuits are firmly ensconced within HTS.  Our theme for the 2008-2009 school year is “Cura Personalis”.  Cura Personalis is a Latin phrase that translates as "Care of the Entire Person". Our teachers and administrators are more than academic guides. They are involved in the lives of their students, taking a personal interest in the intellectual, affective, moral and spiritual development of every student, helping each one to develop a sense of self-worth and to become a responsible individual within the community.  Our faculty and staff guide our students in their development of a set of values that lead to life decisions going beyond "self" to include a concern for the needs of others. Our “do as I do” philosophy offers a positive example to the students.

.

Holy Trinity School accepts children of all races, cultures, and religions.  Our school is divided into three areas and physically divided into two.  Our Early Childhood program includes Nursery (3-year-olds), Pre-Kindergarten (4-year-olds), and Kindergarten (5-year-olds).  Each grade is a full day program.  Our Early Childhood program is developmental in nature.  Beginning in 1st grade, we incorporate many changes.  Our students begin wearing uniforms, and their day is more academically based.  The Early Childhood program and Grades 1-4 are located in our Lower School Building.  Our Upper School building houses Grades 5-8.  We offer an academically challenging program, and our graduates continue on to high school in many of the private and parochial schools in the area.

HTS is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and has recently taken part in an extensive study of Ignatian Spirituality as part of our re-accreditation project.  “Lifting Up Every Child, Using a Jesuit Decision-Making Model for Planning, Instruction, and Assessment” has allowed our school to embark on a journey to rearticulate our mission and help our students understand the rich history of the Jesuits.  We are also active members of NCEA and ASCD.  We belong to the Archdiocese of Washington school system and follow their policies and curriculum.  As a Catholic school, we teach religion in all grades, and there are many opportunities for our students to perform community service.

Our strong, supportive parents are involved in countless ways in our school.  Our parents chaperone, drive, fund-raise, and speak in class.  We have an active Home-School Association and a vitally important School Advisory Board.

Admissions questions and procedures should be directed to Mrs. Kim Calnan Crismali, our Admissions Director.  We have three open houses a year.  Check our website for dates.  We are fortunate to often have more people apply than we can accommodate.  Please call soon if you are interested.

I hope you enjoy looking through our website.  I know you will begin to feel the very special atmosphere that is Holy Trinity School.  We look forward to hearing from you soon.
