Early Childhood Music and Movement Classes are a combination of Music and PE Curriculums. The classes in Early Childhood are:Nursery, Pre- Kindergarten and Kindergarten Classes

This is a curriculum based on non-competitive fun activities for children ages 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Our Motto is “We are all one team”. The children learn cooperative skills that help them rely on their classmates – not compare or compete with them. The games and activities are all-inclusive and where necessary every child has their own piece of equipment. Classroom themes are incorporated as well as other disciplines such as language arts, science, health, and math,

We work on developing basic skills such as:
· Hand - eye coordination
· Cross lateral movement
· Gross motor skills – skipping, kicking, running etc.
· Fine motor skills – holding, catching, pinching, grasping, picking up
· Balance and coordination
· Basic tumbling and rolling
· Introduction to the fundamentals of – Soccer, basketball, floor hockey, Frisbee, kick ball
· Introduction to individual play – jumping rope, hula hoops, scooters

Music is used throughout the class and there are many movement activities including:
· Ribbon sticks
· Scarves
· Parachute Games

Music provides opportunities for children to sing, respond physically to different rhythms, participate in creative expressions, play instruments, and listen.

Through our many activites the students will be introduced to...

1. Developing an appreciation and enjoyment for music.
2. Recognizing the relationship between music and other areas of the curriculum.
3. Differentiating between a variety of patterns and rhythms.

Throughout the class the children also learn the importance of:
· following directions
· taking turns
· listening skills (both to the teacher and to their classmates)
·
Mostly we have a lot of fun!

Please have your children wear soft-soled shoes, preferably sneakers on the days that we have class. A class schedule appears below.
