This week's focus: Finish Causes of the American Revolution & Prepare for Essay Test

Pay attention to the election news. Watch the results on Tuesday evening.

During class on Tuesday, we will help to set up and run the election at HTS.

 

Write or type a one page summary of some of the important results including Electoral College vote totals, breakdowns of the Democrat vs. Republican numbers in the House of Representatives and the Senate, and then other points of interest to you or your opinions on these results.

Method for Solving Equations

Extra Credit Option for First Quarter:

1) Complete ALL of the normally assigned work in a THOROUGH fashion BEFORE starting any extra credit stuff. Take time on your tests and CHECK YOUR WORK before handing it in. Take the given retests and hand them in on time after working on them CAREFULLY. (The normally assigned work and tests are valued MUCH more highly by the grader than the "extra credit" which just makes more work for both of us!!!)

2) Complete careful answers to all multiples of 6 on all problems in the "Extra Practice" section in the back of the textbook on pages 639 - 644. (Chapters 1, 2 & 3). Now, before you start working on this, go back and RE-read point 1) just above!

Please memorize this section of the Declaration of Independence by Friday, October 17th: "We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness; that, to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenver any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

Essay Test Question:

Describe the Causes of the American Revolution. Include any British laws and policies and how the colonists responded to these law and policies. Also include any events which helped to cascade the reactions from one law to the next. You do not need a lot of exact dates, but the sequence of events is important to show how one thing led to another. You will one full 41 minute period to tell me what you know, so please do not focus too much time on any one law or event.

Extra Credit Option for First Quarter:

1) Complete ALL of the normally assigned work in a THOROUGH fashion BEFORE starting any extra credit stuff. (The normally assigned stuff is valued MUCH more highly by the grader than the "extra credit" which just makes more work for both of us!!!)

2) Complete thorough answers to Review Questions 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 on p. 186. Then write a longer answer to Critical Thinking question # 6 "Supporting Opinions". Now, before you start working on this, go back and RE-read point 1) just above!
