Dear Parents,

"A good man is not a perfect man; a good man is an honest man, faithful, and unhesitatingly responsive to the voice of God in his life." John Fischer

As we enter the final two weeks of the 2008-2009 school year, the faculty and staff at HTS want you to know how thankful we are for entrusting your most precious gift to us this year.  It has been a joyful year, and one we hope you and your child will remember always.

Peace,
Mary Shannon
Principal

Reminder:
Child Protection Workshop Scheduled This Weekend

Dear Parents,

In September the school asked you to consider becoming compliant with our Child Protection Policy.  I am so thankful to the many of you who have chosen this route over the course of the year.  Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, all volunteers must be in compliance before they can volunteer.  Below is a review of the policy:

This Policy includes filling out an application and emergency form.  In addition, you must attend a workshop called "Protecting God's Children for Adults"*, sign for and read the Child Protection Policy booklet, and be fingerprinted through the Archdiocese, even if you have been fingerprinted elsewhere.   In addition, copies of the Child Protection Policy Booklet, Volunteer Application, Virtus Registration, and Fingerprint appointment are all available here.  Copies of our Volunteer Emergency Form are on our website.

A volunteer is anyone who has contact with our children.  This includes Girl Scout/Boy Scout leaders (IF you hold meetings on our campus) and coaches.  However, it also includes chaperones on field trips (including drivers), Grace Art volunteers, etc.  If you have gone through this process once, you do not have to do it again.  If you are not sure, please contact Valinda Smith at vsmith@htsdc.org to confirm your compliance.

The purpose of this program is to ensure the safety of our children.  It is our highest priority.  I thank you for all of the work you do for us.  Please do not hesitate to contact the school with any questions you may have.

*We are holding a workshop on Sunday, June 7, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Holy Trinity School in the theater.

Eighth Graders Accumulate 4675.5 for Seventh and Eighth Grade Service Projects!

This year the 8th grade class piloted a new approach to service projects, above and beyond their monthly selected service work.    Each student chose one charitable organization, humanitarian group or worthwhile foundation to support.  Forty-seven students wrote a minimum of three individual measurable goals, constructed a realistic timeline, met their project goals, assessed their work in a written report,  and gave a final reflection of their individual effort using a biblical passage of their choosing.    Holy Trinity School congratulates our Class of 2009 for their outstanding work.  The following  is a list of students by class with the recipient of their personal service hours.

Home School Association News

Appetizers with the Principal

Join Mary Shannon and the Home and School Association for "Appetizers with the Principal" on Monday, June 8 at 6:15pm in McKenna Hall.  Mrs. Shannon will discuss the Terra Nova test's new format and the school's results.

Parents will have the opportunity during this meeting to vote for HSA President-elect (candidate is Denise Siciliano) and HSA Treasurer (candidate is Phil Joyce).  We will also be voting to approve the HSA's 2009-2010 fund allocation.  Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of our fantastic fundraisers and the generosity of our many benefactors, the HSA has $200,000 to allocate for next year.  The HSA Board has developed a preliminary allocation based upon the school's needs and the HSA's goals (see below).

Free child-sitting is available from 6:00pm until the end of the meeting.  Please RSVP to Sheila Miller at 202-337-2339 or smiller@htsdc.org so that we may plan appropriately.

If you would like to vote but cannot attend the meeting, please send back our "absentee" ballot, which was included with the HSA flyer in today's Tuesday folder.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Shannon Hynds at shynds@mindspring.com

Thank You Fundraisers!
Great Work HTS! The Home & School Association would like to thank everyone who gave of their time, talent and treasure to support our school this year.  Through your generosity, the HSA fundraisers brought in almost $200,000 for HTS.  This money will go to student scholarships, technology & sports for the school, playground equipment, professional development for the teachers, and many other needs that HTS has outside of its budget.

The HSA would like to extend a special thank you to all the fundraising chairs.  Their dedication, hard work and leadership have helped the HSA to make real changes in all of our children's lives.  If you cross paths with any of these excellent individuals, please thank them for a job well done.
